According to the head of parliament, the candidate is an experienced lawyer, has been an ombudsman for two terms and already knows the issues in this field.
“I am convinced that Edita Žiobienė is a suitable and experienced candidate for the position of Ombudsman for the Protection of Children’s Rights, so I will invite the members of Seimas to support this presentation of mine,” said the president del Seimas in the report.
Last September, the then president of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis registered the draft resolution of the Seimas on the appointment of E. Žiobienė as Ombudsman for the Protection of Children’s Rights for another term, but this issue was not presented to Parliament.
E.Žiobienė has held the position of Ombudsman for the Protection of Children’s Rights since March 2010.
He has a BA in Sociology, a BA and MA in Law, and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences (Law).
E.Žiobienė has served as director of the Lithuanian Center for Human Rights, Mykolas Romeris University, Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas University of Technology, Kaunas County Governor’s Administration.
The Ombudsman for the Protection of the Rights of the Child supervises and controls the provision and protection of the legitimate rights and interests of the child, investigates cases of violation of the rights and legitimate interests of the child and seeks to improve the situation of children in Lithuania .
