Popular Party member to be tried for hatred of homosexuals incited in LRT debate

Pre-trial instruction in accordance with article 170 of the Penal Code. 2 d. (Incitement against any nation, race, ethnicity, religion or other group of people) was initiated due to the statements of the candidate to the Seimas P. Valickas during the debate last year, which was broadcast live on the LRT.

Speaking on the political debate program, P. Valickas may have gone on to insult and denigrate homosexual people due to their personal qualities or their private life, which has nothing to do with their political activities and decisions.

When the political party candidate P. Valickas chose a derogatory and derogatory vocabulary on the show, homosexuals could be publicly ridiculed, they were despised for their sexual orientation, beliefs or opinions.

During a debate on September 23, Valick called homosexuals “pedophiles”, “perverts”, saying that if they were allowed to adopt children, “they could torture, exploit, rape”, organize.

The Lithuanian People’s Party received the lowest number of votes of all parties in the Seimas elections: 0.25 percent. P. Valickas was not elected a member of the Seimas.

The Penal Code establishes that any person who publicly mocks, despises, incites hatred or incites discrimination against a group of people or a person belonging to it for reasons of sex, sexual orientation, disability, race, nationality, language, origin , social condition, religion, belief or opinion is punishable by a fine or restriction of freedom, arrest or imprisonment of up to two years.

The criminal case has been transferred to the Vilnius City District Court, reports the prosecutor’s office.
