As Marian Sokalski, chairman of the Electoral Commission in Vilnius, told BNS, at the Polish Embassy at 2 p.m. According to the data, more than 300 voters had already come to vote, some of them had registered in advance, others had arrived with documents that allowed them to vote abroad.
“Voting is calm and fluid, the flow of people is constant: a total of 442 people with the right to vote are registered and, of course, tourists who have a certificate of the right to vote abroad are arriving. I would say that half of the lists are already there, the other part, with certificates, tourists. At the moment, a total of 320-330 people voted, “he said.
According to M. Sokalskis, the activity of those who visit Vilnius for a short time is especially gratifying, because less was expected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Polish presidential elections abroad are always more active than parliamentary or European Parliament elections. So this is natural, especially since there is a second round, when the fate of two candidates is really decided, this mobilizes the voter”, said the head of the electoral commission.
The Electoral Commission in Vilnius will close at 9 pm, so voter participation is also expected in the evening. Votes are expected to be counted and presented to the Polish Central Election Commission before 11 p.m.
In the second round of the Polish presidential elections, the current head of the country, Andrzej Duda, and the mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, are fighting. In the first round, voters in Vilnius were more supportive of R. Trzaskowski, and these results differed slightly from the Polish vote.
According to M. Sokalski, this is common, as newcomers often have slightly different political views than most Polish voters.
