September 24 Vilnius County Officials from the Economic Crimes Investigation Board of the Criminal Police of the Chief Commissariat of Police, who had information on the illegal disposal of excise goods, organized an ambush in the warehouse district of the district of Vilnius. Criminalists arrested 4 people who loaded a suspicious load onto a truck, as it turned out, they smuggled cigarettes marked with the seals of the Republic of Belarus, Vilnius County Police reports.
The detainees were found to have illegally disposed of 97,509 packs of cigarettes worth around € 350,000. A pre-trial investigation has been launched against persons detained for the illegal disposal of excise goods (Article 199², paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania). For all detainees, the court granted the prosecutor’s request for an arrest warrant.
Thanks to the efforts of the police, a large quantity of cigarettes did not enter the shadow market, which would have generated large amounts of illicit income by the organizers and authors of this crime.
