At the Šiauliai County Police, the first COVID-19 illness was diagnosed in employees of the Raseiniai District Police Station.

As the work is done on a county basis, the district officials must have frequent contact with each other during the service, so the infections soon reached Šiauliai as well. Three professional physical training, shooting and tactics instructors from the Lithuanian Police College and forensic scientists from the Šiauliai County Police Chief’s Station working here fell ill. Some officers had to live and work in self-isolating conditions. The situation changed daily: some recovered and returned to service, others fell ill.

Currently, 7 employees of the Šiauliai County Police Station, 6 officers, 11 employees of the Raseiniai Police Station (10 of them), and one officer from the Radviliškis District Police Station are sick with COVID-19.

After assessing the situation, the work was reorganized.

To reduce contact between them so that no more officers get out of the lineup, all who can are released to work remotely, other officers work in shifts. The Raseiniai Police, which has the highest number of sick officers, is assisted by crews from other Šiauliai County Police District Police Stations.

Raseiniai officers recovered and returned to duty, so residents did not have to feel the decline in police ranks.

Gradually, the Raseiniai officers recovered and returned to service. Therefore, residents did not have to feel and fear that there would be no one to ensure public order, and there was no reason to be in the ranks of rarer officials. The situation is fully under control: reports of events and crimes are responded to, traffic safety is monitored.
