Police arrested a high court judge drunk on the road

According to Kaunas County Police Representative Odeta Vaitkevičienė, the patrol cars pulled him over after receiving a report from another driver about an unsafe Mercedes.

The car was not taken to the parking lot stopped by the police, it was given to a sober person to drive it.

A pretrial investigation has not been initiated for drunk driving greater than one and a half wpm because the judge has immunity. The material on driving while intoxicated was delivered to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla confirmed this information, noting that the intoxicated judge of the Lithuanian Supreme Court Arvydas Daug quela, who was driving a car in Kaunas district, was arrested tonight.

The leadership of the Council of Judges immediately informed the institution of the President of the Republic of Lithuania about this event.

In accordance with the Constitution and the Law of Courts, the President of the Republic adopts a decree to ask the Council of Judges for advice on the removal of a judge. The powers of a judge are suspended until a decision is made to remove the judge.
