Poland increases the number of troops on the border with Belarus

“Currently, the most important task is to protect the border with Belarus. In the coming days, military helicopters will patrol the Polish-Belarusian border,” wrote M. Blaszczak on the social network Twitter.

Last Thursday, the Warsaw parliament extended the state of emergency on the border with Belarus for two months.

On Tuesday, Polish border guards detained 13 migrants, according to the information they provided.

The Warsaw government accuses Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenko of helping refugees from conflict zones reach the external borders of the European Union (EU) to create a crisis.

The Belarusian authorities, for their part, blame the West for creating chaos in these conflict-affected regions, and that is what is forcing people to seek a better life.

Lukashenko announced in late May that Minsk would no longer prevent immigrants from traveling further to the EU in response to tougher sanctions against Belarus.

Poland is currently building a fence along its 418-kilometer border with Belarus.
