“An agreement was reached on the Warsaw-Berlin-Budapest triangle,” Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Gowin said in Warsaw on Wednesday.

Germany currently holds the presidency of the EU.

Gowin said he believed the deal would be supported by the remaining 27 member states, but did not provide further details.

He said he was optimistic that Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki would negotiate a “good deal” on the bloc’s budget at an EU summit on Thursday.

Budapest and Warsaw blocked the EU’s 1.8 trillion dollars last month. the adoption of the one billion euro budget and economic recovery package, as they include a mechanism to link the allocation of funds to respect for the rule of law.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who recently met with Morawieck in Warsaw, said Tuesday night that he believed an agreement was possible at the next summit.

EU ambassadors will discuss blocking the EU budget during an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday afternoon, EU sources said.
