Rūta Atroškaitė, representative of the communications department of the Lithuanian railway passenger transport company LTG Link, told Eltai that part of the train travel, which was interrupted after the announcement of movement restrictions between municipalities, is gradually being restored .

“Throughout the second quarantine period, from mid-December to the present, we made some adjustments to the trips: initially we reduced them, but by monitoring the flow of passengers, we restored one more trip. We did so because throughout this period, from December to now, there have been essentially few such launches. Depending on that, the flow of passengers also changed, ”he said.

According to R. Atroškaitė, the passenger flow has increased by approximately 25 percent in recent months. points.

“If we talk about the Christmas period, as soon as the movement restriction was introduced, the flow of passengers was reduced by about 80 percent. “… Now with some of these launches, it’s hovering around 55% compared to the same period last year,” he said.

R. Atroškaitė noted that decisions on re-establishing specific train trips are made taking into account changes in passenger flows, therefore, after the expiration of the restriction of movement between municipalities on March 15, not yet major changes are planned.

“Everything will depend on how many people are traveling,” he added.

A representative of LTG Link also noted that residents of the country are noted to view quarantine restrictions responsibly.

“In fact, people are behaving responsibly enough: as mentioned, around 55% are currently traveling. Fewer passengers than last year. We can also see that trains travel more frequently on weekdays, with more passenger flows. higher than weekends. The numbers show that people travel more for necessities, which reflects the fact that society is not yet so relaxed, “he said.

Kautra renews part of its long distance services

At that time, the long-haul passenger airline Kautra announces that it will renew a total of 12 additional flights between Kaunas, Alytus, Vilnius, Druskininkai, Šilalė and Vištytis starting on March 4.

“The spring of the calendar has arrived, Easter is approaching, we heard the expectations of the passengers that in some municipalities the buses circulated infrequently, communication was not convenient. Other passengers have to arrive at certain places in Lithuania for important reasons. We have made the decision to restore a part of the transport network to this small scale, which has been considerably reduced so far, ”said Linas Skardžiukas, general manager of Kautra.

According to the director of the company, small steps are being taken to restore the wider route network. The entire process will depend directly on the scope of the quarantine and the extent of the restrictions, making it difficult to predict a broader resumption of travel so far.

Compared with the period since the start of the quarantine, the company has renewed more than 40 percent. long distance services. This is the highest number among all long distance operators in Lithuania today.
