In preparation for the new season, FK Panevėžys has already played his sixth friendly match today. At the meeting held at the Hikvision football stadium in Marijampolė, the people of Panevėžys defeated the footballers of Sūduva with the result 1: 0 (0: 0).

Not only Saulius Širmelis, who worked as head coach last year, but also several players remained in Sūduva. Ignas Plūkas, Algis Jankauskas, Ivanas Hladikas, Linas Klimavičius, Andro Švrljuga, Glebas Kluškinas, Eligijus Jankauskas, Josipas Tadičius, Valerijus Šabala, Mihretas Topčagičius said goodbye to the Marijampolė Club after last season.
In early January, Marijampolė Sūduva signed a 2-year contract with Spanish soccer specialist Victor Basadre. The 51-year-old has spent most of his career as an assistant. He worked in various Spanish clubs, Volos in Greece, and in the early 2020s he came to Lithuania for a short time; then he led the first Vilnius “Žalgiris” trainings instead of a sick colleague.
To prepare for the first training session of the new season, the Sūduva team, which will be supplemented by a team of newcomers, met on January 18. During that time, Suwalki’s team managed to play three friendly matches, two of which were with Kaunas Hegelmann Litauen. The Marijampolė people lost one match to the Kaunas team with the score 1: 2, and ended the other with a 1: 1 draw. Furthermore, “Sūduva” played peacefully 1: 1 with Gargždai “Banga”.
The match on the Marijampolė Hikvision soccer field began with attacks from Panevėžys, but the hosts successfully defended themselves. Already in the 14th minute of the game, Panevėžio’s coaches made a forced change. The young Matijus Remeikis appeared in the place of Matheus Bissi, who was injured.
In the 18th minute of the game, Panevėžys’ people made a quick attack from the right side, but Jeffrey Sarpong, who misled his opponent’s defender, missed Sūduva’s goal from a distance of 12 meters.
From the middle of the half, the Sūduva footballers began to control the ball longer. In the 27th minute of the match, the ball hit by the home team from the penalty area flew close to the Panevėžio team’s goal.
The ball quickly controlled the ball. In the 30th minute of the match, Ernestas Veliulis shot from the penalty area from the starting position, but Ivanas Kardumas, Sūduva’s goalkeeper, played reliably.

After the break, there was a tough game for a while and there were no dangerous moments. In the 72nd minute of the game, Panevėžio’s coaches made four changes. Instead of R. Broetto, H. Figueredo, E. Jankauskas and J. Elias, Š. Jurevičius, S. Vasquezas, P. Širvys and I. Kružikas.
Immediately after the changes, the guests raised up to four consecutive corners on the Sūduva gate. After lifting the fourth corner in the 74th minute of the game, E. Veliulis sent the ball into Sūduva’s goal and put Panevėžys’ side ahead.
After two minutes, E. Veliulis had a great opportunity to increase the lead again. Panevėžys, having confused the two defenders of the defenders, one jumped against the goalkeeper of the local goalkeeper, but failed to get through the goal; the ball flew close to Sūduva’s goal.
In the 80th minute of the game, Panevėžys Š. Jurevičius blocked a long shot from the home team.
