“We need to reorganize the party and board structures as soon as possible. I am not going to name the gendas, both with the organizational work and with the work of the central staff, and with the funding, but I think I support the alternative that, unfortunately, Elections must be evaluated poorly, the work of the central staff unsatisfactory Dear Gintautas, did not meet expectations.
Because you think about the mistakes you made, then forty chapters think you had to resign after the first round of the elections. I think it was necessary after the second. The second mistake is that we have been blocking the elections for a long time, three months. Three months later, you finally said something. So now it would be great fun for you to follow Kęstutis Vilkauskas’s recommendation and mine, and for us to start new elections for party chairmen, and to be able to move forward in May and reshape the team, ”said Vice President Andriukaitis.
According to him, now it is very important that the people of the municipalities get ahead.
“We have mayors, vice-mayors, we need your voice in the presidium,” Vice President Andriukaitis said.
Blinkevičiūtė was next to Paluck
Vilija Blinkevičiūtė MEP sided with G. Paluckas.
“The fact that the results of our elections to the Seimas of the Social Democrats are bad is not disputed by anyone. (…) Certainly, this is not the first time we have talked about it. (…) We really did not expect such results, some people have already measured certain uniforms and that frustration is enormous, ”said V. Blinkevičiūtė.
However, in his opinion, the party will not be able to achieve results when it starts a war within its organization.
“So we are at war with each other, and we are at war by showing this on the outside, who will speak more intelligently, who will bite, who will bite Gint the most (in this case). I want to defend it, because when that war takes place outside, we all lose. (…) And who wins with that war? And all our opponents and other parties applaud and rejoice, ”said V. Blinkevičiūtė.
He noted that the Social Democrats had performed well in the municipal and EP elections.
“Yes, we stumbled, the Seimas elections are bad. (…) But when those two elections were good, it meant that the party won, and when these were already bad, then Paluck was to blame, and those close to Paluck. Stop, Liars of mine, wherever I work, whatever I do, I take responsibility all the time and say openly: everyone is to blame because we have been constantly waging wars within our party. Therefore, there is no result, “said V. Blinkevičiūtė.
Paluck: Sometimes I felt like a conductor without an orchestra.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Paluck reviewed the four-year period during which he led the party.
“We had four elections during this period. We had all kinds of ups and downs in our ratings. (…) Our lowest rating dropped to four percent, right after the divorce with social workers, and we had the best results in the PE elections. And the worst, probably in the presidential elections.
We are talking about parliamentary elections and the reasons that led to results that none of us expected. This is a secret, many sent CVs and were preparing for government structures and coalitions, “said G. Paluckas.
In his speech, the party president mentioned his letter to his fellow party members, about which Delfi had already written. His theses can be found here.
The party president reiterated his conviction that if the Social Democrats do not stop washing themselves in public, they cannot expect a recovery in the rating results.
“I really respect V. Andriukaitis, I respect A. Sys, but I don’t agree with them. I say this openly, and for that I don’t need to write open letters and then ask myself how they got to the public. Likewise, I don’t agree that the concept of renewal is intrusive and that we have to turn around and try to glue the broken container and find a way to win back some friends.
All these four years of effort, my staff and many of us, have been designed to break the new pot, not stick to the old one. This has allowed us to recover our reputation in certain stages, ”said G. Paluckas.
In his opinion, the main reason for the unsatisfactory result of the Seimas elections is that “the voters did not consider the Social Democrats necessary.”
“We could not explain in a loud, clear and meaningful voice what we wrote in the program. Sometimes I felt like a conductor without an orchestra, I spoke alone. Many of our leaders, both on the list and in the region, have been quietly silenced. So today I really take full responsibility for those results, and I blame nothing at all, ”said G. Paluckas.
Olekas did not avoid criticism: I do not see tragedy if Gintautas stops
Juozas Olekas, MEP, also spoke at the meeting. He is named in the public sphere as a potential candidate for party chairmen to replace G. Paluck.
Olekas thanked Paluck for the fact that the party “had engaged in a clear left-party label,” but did not continue to avoid criticism.
“Unfortunately, there is a huge lack of practical content that impresses people behind this label. It is eclectic and there is a real lack of social and economic accents that people can understand. We have succumbed to other accents, we are missing something that shows how Different we are from the right and it is understandable to people. It has not been done and there is not much desire to do it. Strange, “said J. Olekas.
He also argued that the party’s communication was poor and “does not bring a clear message to voters about what we want and what we offer them.”
“For the organization of the party’s activities – I will not be like some – I will not go to defend Gintautas with forks, but the things of the paternalists and the repulsive must end. We are protected and we are the marginalized, we must create the conditions for all those who work constructively, can and are capable of expressing themselves ”, emphasized J. Olekas.
According to him, there are two solutions: either, under the leadership of G. Paluck, the leadership and leadership must be substantially renewed, or a new party leadership must be elected.
“I don’t see any tragedy if Gintautas stops and tries to be the leader again in 2023. I don’t see any catastrophe for him,” said J. Olekas.
Finally, he said that he saw no reason to rejoice, and said that there were many frustrated and marginalized in the party.
The party is almost divided
How Delphi He has already written that the LSDP failed in the elections and remained in opposition to parliament.
The party chairman, G. Paluckas, who was included in the Seimas according to the party’s list, did not become the eldest of the faction;
At that time, even the members of the Seimas’ working faction didn’t speak much to each other.
In his letter to party members, G. Paluckas divided the errors of poor performance in the Seimas elections into four categories: “my mistakes, our mistakes, changes in the political environment and actions of opponents.”
“I will talk about this in more detail at the Council meeting, but there are some things worth mentioning. First of all, about my own mistakes. There were many, starting with team formation, lack of attention to preparation and divisional activities and ending financial mismanagement during the election period, when some single-member members were left without even small but promised support, ”said G. Paluckas.
It is financial problems that warm the LSDP community. Party leaders are said to be half accused of wasting money in elections.
According to the latest data from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the party had around a quarter of a million euros available for the Seimas elections: 258,705.28. This amount was accumulated from funds available to the party, budget allocations, donations from voters and party members. The departments also lack constant communication from the party chairman, yearning for prior communication.
According to a Delfi source, the party structure in Lithuania is already on the brink of collapse. The division within the LSDP is extremely strong, with two clear camps in support of Paluck and Juozas Olekas of the European Parliament (EP).
The latter, even while working in the EP, maintains good relations with the party branches, unlike the party leader. In November, the assumptions that J. Olekas could challenge G. Paluckas in the election of the party president were not confirmed, but neither J. Olekas himself nor the major of the LSDP faction in the Seimas A. Sysas denied this. .
G. Paluckas is supported by Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, who works in this way on the EP and is regularly evaluated quite well in Spinter’s research.
The LSDP council will also discuss the date of the convention on Wednesday. According to the party president, it could take place at the end of May, but it will depend on the quarantine conditions.
Before that, the Social Democrats will have to elect a party president in direct elections.
