“I will definitely invite her to assume the presidency during this term,” the politician told the LRT program “Topic of the day” on Friday.

The party board will consider on Saturday who should temporarily become president of the LSDP, as no first deputy has been appointed.

According to G. Paluckas, depending on political weight or political reputation, V. Blinkevičiūtė can be considered the first vice president of the party.

On Friday, G. Paluckas announced that he was resigning as party chair because council members had misjudged the results of the Seimas elections, the unsatisfactory work of the election headquarters, and his own activities. It does not live up to expectations.

“Today we have a situation where I see that there is an internal war in the context of the next election of the party president. My leadership, my presidency becomes a pretext or an instrument to organize that civil war and divide the party into good and bad, supportive and non-supportive. I think the party from that war may not survive, “G. Paluck told the LRT.

He did not reveal whether he would run for the LSDP presidential election in April.

“I really have a lot of support from party members, I’m sorry and I don’t even doubt it, but if I have the moral right to use it, if there really will be support for what I can offer, in my leadership or maybe another party leader or leader, we will have to discuss more thoroughly, friends and find a consensus ”, said the politician.

On the other hand, he claimed that under the leadership of the LSDP for four years, he had set himself the task of eradicating “beaverism” from the party and had not completed that job.

“It is a specific way of acting when it comes to acting under the rug, the intrigue, when politics becomes a saturated, privileged and lazy existence and life. That beaver has neither age nor postal code, it exists both in cities and regions. This is the abandonment of that beaverism as a way of acting politically, the expulsion of the party was the objective of my four-year term. And I’m not done yet, “he said.

Last October, the Social Democrats ranked fourth in the Seimas elections, with 9.25 percent. voters’ votes. They won eight seats in a multi-member constituency and five more in a single-member constituency.

G. Paluckas has led the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party since May 2017.

The Social Democratic Party Council also advanced the date for the election of the party president. It was decided to hold them from April 22 to 25, it was previously announced that they would be scheduled for May 6 to 9.
