According to him, the rulers, in agreement with the Labor Party and appointed Andrius Mazuronis as vice president of the Seimas, opposed the opposition. Mr. Paluck also does not hide the fact that he no longer sees any reason for the LSDP to sign a cooperation agreement with other opposition groups.
According to G. Paluckas, the current rulers, although they speak of the resurgence of political culture, are behaving in the same way as the “peasants” in the previous legislature, complicating the operation of the opposition and electing only candidates that suit them.
“The reason is simple. I know that I will not get the support of the ruling majority of the larger group. The situation is such that the rulers only designate what is convenient and necessary for them. It is obvious that I will not burn the Social Democratic quota or the LSDP’s ability to have a representative on the board for my own personal interest. So we will nominate another candidate who will be more palatable to conservatives, “Paluck said of Eltai about his decision not to run for vice president.
According to him, an extraordinary situation arose when the rulers simply chose what was convenient for them on the Board of the Seimas.
“The opposition will not support me for the simple reason that the Labor Party will not support me because we did not support them on Friday. This is obvious because they arose from such an informal opposition agreement. The ‘peasants’ will not support it as they will stay. barefoot without the position of vice president. (…) I know that the majority of the Conservative Group does not support me either, so this experiment is unnecessary for me. “There is a situation in which the rulers choose what they want to support,” he said.
According to Paluck, the rulers provoked internal opposition from the opposition on Friday by appointing A. Mazuronis as vice president.
“The mirror principle applies. The LVŽS used to complicate the functioning of the opposition, and the Conservatives now apply the same principles. Yes, according to the principle of political culture, the opposition should be allowed to stand for election according to the size of the group, while allowing dignity to be maintained. They must be approved by the rulers without explaining what would be more comfortable or beautiful for them. In this case, the internal tensions in the opposition are caused precisely by the actions of the rulers, when a representative of the Labor faction was appointed, who should not have been nominated, at least until the knowledge of the opposition. It is an unfair practice, it lacks justice, it is obvious, ”said the LSDP leader.
There is no longer the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between opposition groups
When asked if he still saw opportunities to sign a cooperation agreement between the opposition factions, Paluck said those opportunities were no longer visible.
“I do not think it is necessary now in this light, when the Labor Party has fallen from the opposition. Although it described itself as an opposition group, the need for such an agreement between the opposition groups is not relevant. Cooperation in the opposition is now only possible for certain common political goals on the agenda. Although the LSDP will make a decision formally on Wednesday, I do not see the need for such a content-free agreement, “he said.
ELTA recalls that in the first session of the new legislature the Seimas elected the Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, its Conservative First Deputy Jurgis Razmas and the Deputy Member of the Labor Factor A. Mazuronis.
V. Čmilytė-Nielsen’s decision on Friday to nominate A. Mazuronis, the representative of the smaller opposition fraction, as vice-presidents of the Seimas also surprises the leaders of the Lithuanian Union of Greens and Peasants (LVŽS). According to the president of LVŽS Ramūnas Karbauskis, there is a constitutional rule when the president of Seimas proposes to appoint a representative of the largest opposition faction as one of his deputies.
The candidate for the position of Vice President of the Seimas proposed by the Peasants is currently Aušrinė Norkienė. However, after meeting with R. Karbauskis on Monday, V. Čmilytė-Nielsen stated that the LVŽS faction should look for another candidate for vice-presidents of parliament.
At that time, the LSDP promised to nominate G. Paluckas, but after the situation on Friday, they responded to the charge and handed over their candidacy to party partner Julius Sabatauskas.
