During the first quarantine, social care facilities were completely banned from admitting new residents, and this can now be done if a negative coronavirus test is performed. For these reasons, there are fewer new pavilions in the institutions than usual, and those who wish to do so have to wait in queues.

“As we were unable to accept new residents during both outbreaks of the pandemic, the number of people who automatically left the institution was unoccupied, so their number did not increase, but decreased,” says Petras Velička, director of the Nursing Home. Social Struna.

Care prices go up every year

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (SADM), the average cost of long-term social care for an adult in a care institution increases every year.

“Already in 2015. it amounted to 747 euros per month, and last year the price ranged between 795 and 1150 euros,” says the Ministry of Social Affairs.

According to representatives of care institutions, the increase in prices of social care is influenced by the increase in the prices of goods and services on the market, and the main reason is the increase in the salaries of social workers: it is 60%. social assistance prices.

“We had to raise the salaries of the employees, and there was a lack of money in the salary fund, so the prices of services at the institution have risen since last August,” says P. Velička.

The amounts reach a thousand euros.

This year, people with disabilities pay 800 euros for the provision of social services in the Strūna residence and people with severe disabilities, 890 euros.

Residents of these residences pay 70 euros more than last year. The price of care went up a bit more at other care institutions.

This year, the price of daily social assistance in the Kupiškis welfare home for a person with a disability reaches 770 euros per month. This is 90 euros more than last year, and people with severe disabilities will have to pay a little more than a hundred euros more: 930 euros.

The website for the Department of Disability Affairs indicates that most of the care of a disabled person is paid for at the Welfare Home Sale. Here, people with disabilities pay almost a thousand euros, 990 euros per month, and people with severe disabilities, 1088 euros.

The state can compensate places in institutions

According to the law, municipalities are responsible for organizing the provision of social services to residents of their territory. Their budgets annually plan the funds needed to finance social services.

P. Velička, director of the Struna Social Welfare Home, says that the institution, together with the municipalities, is planning a maintenance plan for next year.

“This year we received a little more than 13 thousand. to compensate for places of care, ”he said.

Municipalities also have the right to exempt a person from payment of social assistance according to their own procedure.

“Residents who settled in a healthcare institution before 2007 are supported by public spending. For those who were established after 2007, the social services provided are paid for by the municipalities that have signed compensation agreements for the social care service with the institution, ”says the administration of the Venta social care home.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs, at the beginning of last year there were 127 institutions for the care of the elderly, 68 residences and collective residences for adults with disabilities.
