Only for the rich: Louis Vuitton to launch a luxury shield against the coronavirus | Lifetime

During the pandemic, many designers tried to make protective masks stylish as well.

And now fashion house Louis Vuitton has gone one step further by introducing a luxurious face shield designed to be “stylish and protective,” the French fashion house said in a statement, reports CNN.

The eye-catching panel from the LV fashion house is dimmed by the sun to protect the eyes from sunlight. The crest is also decorated with gold studs engraved with the Louis Vuitton brand, as well as an elastic headband with the brand. According to the fashion house, the coat can also be used as a translucent hat.

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but as a high-end fashion brand LV won’t really sell them cheap. Other Louis Vuitton headgear, including hats and sunglasses, sell for hundreds of dollars.

The face shield will be available online and in select Louis Vuitton stores starting October 30.

In April, Louis Vuitton joined the global effort to produce protective gear for healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic. The company said it had changed several of its workshops in France to “produce hundreds of thousands of non-surgical face masks” for healthcare workers.

LV also claimed to have donated thousands of protective gowns to six Paris hospitals in desperate need of protective equipment.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not currently recommend the use of face shields as a substitute for masks because it is unclear what level of protection they provide.
