According to art critics, contemporary Lithuanian painting would be difficult to imagine without the influence of V. Gečas.

“In his work, Gečas revealed himself for the first time as an observer of social reality. Expressive, sometimes ironic, everyday motives can often be seen in his works. There is no lack of cinematography in the paintings: Gečas transmitted the composition as a photographic frame or film. Later works are more dominated by natural motifs, landscapes, still lifes, “says the report.

V. Gečas was born in 1931 in Mažeikiai, studied at the current Vilnius Academy of Arts, where in 1970 he defended his title as a teacher.

He, one of the few Lithuanian painters, had the opportunity to do an internship outside of Lithuania; in 1963-1964 he studied in Italy.

In 1969-1982, V. Gečas was rector of the Vilnius Academy of Arts.

In 1968, he was awarded the Lithuanian State Prize for merit and artistic activity, and in 1974, V. Gečas received the honorary title of Lithuanian Merit Artist.

The artist’s works have been exhibited in Italy, Germany, Poland, Estonia and Russia. The artist’s canvases have been purchased by Lithuanian art museums, the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, science and art institutions, and private collectors in the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, and other countries.
