One day with a “tripod” in Panevėžys: in the city, some people drove faster than allowed on the highway

15min GAZAS decided to see with his own eyes how the speed control works on the “tripod”, how many and which cases of speeding are recorded more. The author of these lines was joined by Panevėžys County LSC Highway Police Service Officer Andrius Rakašius for a day.

Every day, in the city, the district and the entire county of Panevėžys, speed control is carried out not by one, but by several police officers located in different places, building “tripods” according to the planned plan. It is usually based on accident statistics.

For speed control, sections of city streets or districts where serious accidents have occurred in the past are selected. Various accelerations are recorded. According to the police, zero tolerance can be applied in one day and exceedances can be recorded from the first kilometer passed, and offenders exceeding 10 km / h can be recorded the next day. plus. So, the opinion of the drivers is that you drive in the city up to 20 km / h. faster than allowed officials look indulgent is a myth.

We started the morning with Panevėžys County Highway Police Service LSC officer from the position on Klaip endos Street. Because the new police speedometers are capable of measuring both approaching and exiting vehicles, this is how the officer adjusts the unit.

The first offenders do not have to wait long: several cars are registered, the drivers of which exceeded the speed by more than 20 km / h. Soon, several more drivers will cross the same line, and one person will be caught exceeding 35 km / h. By the way, most of the drivers didn’t even realize that they had been caught.

Does the “tripod” have to blink?

The prevailing opinion in society is that if the meter does not flash, it means that the violation has not been recorded. However, this opinion is incorrect. During the day, the speedometer takes the best quality photos without the flash, and the officer sets it himself when darkness approaches. So if you were driving too fast, you saw a “tripod”, but there was no flash, don’t rejoice too soon. An email about a recorded violation may come later, although some road users have reported that the email sometimes arrives the day after the violation.

The full day of an official working with a “tripod” is divided into four parts. Four different locations with approximately two hours of work were selected.

The end of working hours on Klaipėdos Street was approaching when gross speeding occurred, leaving the driver without the right to drive.

The driver of the Ford Mustang sped the km at 130 km / h. at a speed of 50 km / h. A total of 19 drivers sped at this location, and in two hours the meter measured the speed of more than 1,800 vehicles.

Immediately after, we moved to Nemuno Street. Here, cars move on three lanes in one direction and two in the other. The meter again recorded the speed of the approaching and moving cars. In this place the speed of more than 2,300 cars was measured in a couple of hours, and four drivers were stuck, exceeding the speed of 30 to 40 km / h, when it is possible to drive 50 km / h. speed. Another 16 drivers came into the crosshairs of the “tripod” when they were driving at 20 to 30 km / h. faster than the rules allow.

After two hours of work, we changed positions again. The officer’s task indicated that the speed control would be carried out on the Panevėžys ring road. 90 km / h are allowed at this location. speed, but drivers arriving on the Vilnius-Panevėžys highway often ignore this restriction.

In this place, 13 drivers were registered who exceeded the speed limit in two hours. There were two drivers close to the loss of the right to drive, but there was a shortage at this limit. They exceeded speeds of 40 to 50 km / h. and you will be fined between 170 and 230 euros, but you will not lose the right to drive yet. Two more drivers exceeded the speed of 30 to 40 km / h. They will also pay with a fine.

However, if it turns out that a novice driver without two years of experience has sped in this way, he would also be deprived of the right to drive. The “maple leaves” are deprived of the right to circulate at speeds greater than 30 km / h. A similar penalty for such a violation applies to motorcycle and truck drivers.

At this location, nine more drivers exceeded the speed of 20 to 30 km / h, and the “tripod” estimated the speed of almost 600 road users in two hours.

Finally, for the last “tripod” work session with the police officer, we moved to Kėdainiai-Krekenava-Panevėžys. There is never much traffic on this road, but drivers like to drive much faster than the rules allow.

We were soon convinced of this when a Toyota SUV hissed through the speedometer. Trikojis clocked 146 km / h. speed at 90 km / h. speed.

Three more drivers were recorded flying at 40 to 50 km / h. faster than the rules allow. Up to eight drivers exceeded speeds of 30 to 40 km / h. Ten more photos of the “tripod” were taken by those vehicles that exceeded the speed of 20 to 30 km / h. A total of 22 offenders were captured at this location.

Judging from the fact that only about 300 cars were measured here in two hours, the relative number of violators at this location was the highest of the four locations.

However, the author of these lines, who worked with the policeman in the crew, did not have the opportunity to see with his own eyes the fact of the maximum speed recorded that day. Another police officer, who moved into the city from the district in the afternoon, recorded a very serious violation on Klaipėdos street with a “tripod” – a Mercedes driver in which he was allowed to drive at 50 km / h, He “took pictures” while flying at 152 km / h. speed.

So even though police officers work with speedometers really intensively and efficiently, there are still “highway eagles” running through city streets even faster than they are allowed to drive even on the highway.
