Eurovaistinė pharmacist Elvyra Ramaškienė shares basic tips that will be useful for both adults and children.

Tip 1. Choose the right toothbrush.

Thorough brushing is very important for proper oral hygiene. Specialists recommend doing this twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. E. Ramaškienė recommends choosing a soft toothbrush. “The toothbrush must be held correctly at a 45 degree angle towards the gums, do not squeeze them, do not hurt them, as inflammation can begin, the gums begin to bleed,” advises the pharmacist.

Tip 2. Rinse your mouth with water after eating.

There are people who, taking care of their hygiene, rush to brush their teeth after every meal, but, according to the pharmacist, it is certainly not necessary to do so, after eating it is recommended to simply rinse the teeth with water. However, if you have eaten sweets or feel uncomfortable, you can brush your teeth more often.

Tip 3. Choose a toothpaste according to the condition of your teeth.

It is important to choose a suitable paste for your teeth. “There are many different types of toothpaste, with or without fluoride, because we live in a place on Earth that is deficient in fluoride, because we only get it with water or vitamins, so adults should choose toothpaste with al minus 1450 ppm fluoride – these numbers are indicated on the toothpaste.

For those who cannot overcome cavities, it is recommended to choose a toothpaste with even more fluoride ”, advises pharmacist E. Ramaškienė. For those whose teeth are sensitive, it is recommended to pay attention to the level of roughness of the toothpaste, it should be low.

Tip 4. Don’t abuse toothpastes for specific problems.

The pharmacist points out that it is recommended to take the whitening toothpaste intermittently, such as using it for 20 days and taking a break for 10 days. E. Ramaškienė advises to read the composition and pay attention to the fact that whitening toothpaste does not contain hydrogen peroxide, it damages the condition of the teeth, and as a result, the teeth may turn yellow. In addition, the use of chlorhexidine-containing toothpastes should not be decided on its own, such measures can only be prescribed for the specific treatment of the dentist.

Tip 5. Use interdental cleaners.

According to the pharmacist, most of the bacteria accumulate in the interdental spaces, so it is very important to clean them thoroughly and just a toothbrush will not be enough.

“I recommend using interdental floss or interdental brushes for this. When to clean interdental teeth, before or after toothpaste, there are no specific recommendations, but I would recommend cleaning them before using toothpaste ”, comments E. Ramaškienė in the press release.

Tip 6. Choose an alcohol-free mouthwash.

When choosing a mouthwash, it is also important to consider not only its taste but also its composition. The pharmacist advises giving preference to products that do not contain alcohol. Long-term use of alcohol with alcohol can kill not only bad oral bacteria but also good ones, it can dry out the mucous membranes, cause dullness, it can make the oral mucosa burn, gnaw or even hurt.
