The disaster was reported to have occurred around 3.19pm

According to preliminary data, a Russian citizen driving a huge loaded truck was sober. While officials are still clarifying the circumstances of the accident, it is suspected that the accident may have been caused by slippery road surfaces. As soon as you cross the bridge, you will see signs that the tractor is slipping.

The Volvo truck, which was not controlled by the driver, collided with the road barriers and turned onto the road. Both trunk lanes of traffic remained blocked.

The Tauragė – Kryžkalnis highway is a heavily trafficked section, a transport artery that runs from Russia (Kaliningrad region) to Latvia (Riga) via Šiauliai.

Called ambulances rushed to the scene of the accident, who diagnosed the driver with bruises, he announced kurjeris.lt.

Officials from the Tauragė County Police Chief Commissioner reported that the removal of the truck from the road had long been coordinated. Elimination of the consequences was complicated by the fact that the company that owns the tractor is registered outside of Lithuania.

Police officers had to regulate traffic. Those who were driving from Tauragė towards Šiauliai, or those who were coming from Šiauliai towards Tauragė, were directed through the city of Skaudvilė.

Tauragė County Police also warned drivers about difficult traffic conditions.

“The road to Skaudvilė is very slippery. Drivers, be careful!” The officials’ representatives wrote on their Facebook account, who also posted some photos of the traffic accident sites.
