China, which has long led the way in the medal table, was forced to withdraw on the final day of the Games.

The American basketball team, which extended the men’s triumph, the women’s volleyball team and the cyclist Jennifer Valente, who triumphed in the omnium race, made the American delegation shine to the first place in the medals.

The Americans won a total of 39 medals of the highest quality and surpassed the Chinese by one gold.

Overall, American athletes won the most medals at the Games: 113. Chinese with 88 awards held second.

Japan, host of the Games, remained in the third position of the medal table, with 27 gold awards in its account.

Overall, the final of the men’s water polo tournament became the final of the Tokyo 2020 competition, with the Serbian team defeating Greece at 13:10 on Sunday morning.

Traditionally, the men’s marathon on the last day was won by Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge. He covered the distance in 2 hours. 08 min. 38 sec.

The 36-year-old African first defended his championship title in Rio de Janeiro. The silver in this prestigious match went to the Dutch representative Abdi Nageeye, the bronze to the Belgian runner Bashir Abdi.

The Lithuanian Olympians won a silver medal in Tokyo: Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė, the London Games champion, won it on Sunday.

At the final medal table, Lithuania shared 77-82 places with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, North Macedonia, Namibia and Turkmenistan.

The delegations of Latvia and Estonia were among the teams that occupied 59-62 places in the medal table; both won a gold and a bronze medal.

At least one award was won by delegations from 86 countries in Tokyo. A total of 206 delegations competed in the Games.

A record number of 336 medal sets were distributed in Japan.

It should be noted that Lithuania’s position in the medal table is the worst for our country in the entire history of participation in the Summer Games since 1992. Even in 1996, when the basketball team won the only bronze in Atlanta, the Lithuania’s last place in the medal table was highest: 71st.
