Spent four years on the road
Juozas Vasilevskis is 27 years old and lives in Vilnius with her mother. When in Lithuania, the boy usually works in grocery stores or in construction. Work does not go as well as travel, often fired for different reasons. The guy started traveling on foot almost ten years ago.
“I worked in the store and they fired me at sixteen. I got angry and went to Riga,” says the traveler.
Now he has been traveling for about four years. Through them he went twice to Warsaw, Riga and once to Berlin. Juozas, “in order not to be left behind,” tries to walk a hundred kilometers a day. According to him, going so fast is not always possible, sometimes slower and sometimes faster. The purpose of Juozas’ walk was a mystery after the conversation.
“I visit the city, I wonder if there is any legal, illegal work. It is above all to see the city, to walk ”, says Juozas. For these purposes, it has already traveled more than five thousand kilometers and does not promise to stop.

In addition to money and a telephone, he walks to Poland.
We met Juozas on the way to Poland. There he goes to work for a farmer he met during one of the trips.
“About thirty miles from Suwalki, I know a farmer who took me to milk milk, and I go to him. I have worked for him: good money, give food for free, give a place to live, give clothes. There I milk the cows with the machines, I feed them more ”, says Juozas.
When asked why he is going to work in Poland, the boy said it was more interesting. He thinks he will be in Poland for about half a year, where he will go later is unknown.
Juozas went to Poland without money or a phone. “I still had ten euros in the morning, but I had to give it back to a friend because it was on loan. I gave the last debt, I no longer owe anyone, ”says Juozas.
Traveling without money is not new for Juozas, but he used to have a phone when he traveled before. “You get bored, but what are you going to do? In the past, at least there was music when the phone was on. And now it is just calm, calm nature ”, says the traveler.
No food or water is taken on trips.
Juozas travels by road, so he rarely uses maps. Your landmarks are road signs. He is with them and counts the kilometers that remain to be covered. The traveler counts the kilometers traveled from city to city.
“I have never counted how many kilometers I have traveled in total. Tale from city to city. You can still see, for example, from Vilnius to Warsaw, about five hundred kilometers. I know practically that I have already walked five hundred miles. Later I wake up in Warsaw for a while. After that, I go back and count since then ”, says Juozas.
When traveling, the traveler does not carry water or food with him. Washes and drinks at gas stations, restaurants, and roadside restaurant restrooms. When he has money, he buys food, but he usually finds it in containers, so the guy chooses to go on bigger roads, they are full of fast food restaurants and gas stations.
Sleeping in the woods and in a shelter
While walking, Juozas spends the night in the woods along the way. The guy has neither a sleeping bag nor a rug. He goes somewhere further out of the forest so that people do not see, lie down and sleep. Juozas admits that it is much more difficult to travel in winter. When it is cold, under the forest, he stretches out rags, cardboard or fir branches that he finds on the way. When you arrive in a larger town or city, always stay in a hostel.
The boy also travels a lot in Lithuania. Here you have probably visited all the hostels in the country. “Even where my grandmother lives, in Alytus, she was in a shelter for that. Grandma preaches, she is very religious, so you don’t work here and you really like how you travel here. I say I like it a lot, ”says Juozas.
You walk to Berlin in half a year
When we met Juozas on his way to Warsaw, without a backpack, sleeping bag and other things, he went to Germany one spring. Just one difference: then I had a jacket and a phone. The guy walked from Vilnius to the German capital for half a year.
Along the way, the guy stopped pretending, so the journey took longer. Germany is Juozas’ favorite country at the moment, he believes that the people there are freer, more pleasant and have better wages. When he went to Berlin, he watched football in the stadium, visited the city, spent the night in a hostel.
After staying in Germany, he drove home to Suwalki by train, the rest of the way to Vilnius he walked again. This time the boy spent about 200 euros on the trip.

Earn for food at day jobs
While walking, Juozas sometimes finds short-term jobs. When he went to Germany, the guy was working as a lumberjack. “I went to the forest, I look – a person marks trees. I asked him if he had a job, he says, he learned to use the equipment. Sure, it was difficult at first because I’m low and the mountains are big. I worked two weeks,” says Juozas.
The boy has also worked in construction and as a freight forwarder while traveling. The aim of Juozas’ work is not to bring money to Lithuania, the money he needs is what he needs the most in travel for food and clothing.
Sometimes a man wins by collecting containers. Juozas tries not to beg, but sometimes people who see him in containers looking for food or containers give him money.
They are not afraid of people, but of beasts
In winter, Juozas has a much harder time traveling. “It was scary to go in winter when my feet hurt a lot from the cold. It was scary that an amputation would be needed. My legs are so frozen that I am scared, ”says Juozas.
Upon reaching the nearest town, he found a local, where he heated fifty zlotys and rested for several days. Juozas is happy to be successful in travel.
One of the scariest events on the trips was not with humans but with animals. “The wolf passed me. He stopped for a moment, looked up, and ran off. It was terrifying at the time. The moment he looked at me, I didn’t know what to do, ”says Juozas.
He couldn’t remember bad and dangerous stories with people. It is true that once he was about to be hit by a train, the next time by a car.
It is much easier for the traveler to remember good and fun travel memories. “It just came to our attention then. Anyway, nothing dangerous, I’m calmly correct,” says Juozas.

The girl’s company came up with the idea of taking a nude bath.
Many adventures when traveling: women, fights in hostels, beautiful cities. After all, Juozas got the most stuck on New Year’s Eve in Berlin.
On New Year’s Eve, he came up with the idea of bathing naked in the river. At first, the traveler did not see the panels placed on the hill next to the river; After the bath they met, the guy was with them for a few days.
Juozas’ dream is to go to America, travel there on foot, and stop working on the road to work with local farmers.
Even a traveler like Juozas sometimes gets tired, but then he doesn’t stop, he rests in the nearest town for a few days and keeps traveling.
