older people need vaccinations instead of tests

“Let’s stop spreading ambiguous and irrelevant messages: older people do not need tests, older people need vaccines. And we will not create the illusion that we can achieve the result by other means,” the minister told reporters on Friday.

The presidency announced early Friday that its team of experts is proposing to introduce rapid and free COVID-19 antibody tests for older people.

The adviser to the President Irena Segalovičienė also stated that the incidence of COVID-19 and deaths from this infection indicate a very bad situation, which is also influenced by “ultravaccination rates”, insufficient vaccination of the population aged 65 and over.

A. Dulkys claims that the opportunity to get vaccinated was given priority to one of the country’s first residents.

According to the minister, opportunities for older people to get vaccinated were constantly provided, but most of them did not help.

“We also campaigned with postal workers; unfortunately, these measures only convince one in five older adults and we continue to face that problem,” said A. Dulkys.

According to the Department of Statistics, about eight out of ten older people in the 65-79 age group have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine in Lithuania, but fewer than 65 percent of those vaccinated are aged 80 years or older.
