“The Belarusian delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Jauhen Shestakov, and the Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration of Poland, Bartosz Grodecki. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the situation on State Day, trends current developments and the problems that affect the state of border security, ”the ministry said in a statement.
The delegations also reviewed the possibilities of developing agreements related to border security between the two countries, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported.
“An agreement was reached during the meeting to continue with more synergies,” the report said.
This message has been announced in recent weeks as illegal immigrants from Belarus increasingly try to cross the borders of neighboring countries. Since the beginning of this year, nearly 900 people who have entered the country illegally over the border with Belarus have been detained in Poland, several hundred of them this month.
These incidents raise concerns that the influx of migrants from Belarus, which Lithuanian officials see as a hybrid attack by the authoritarian regime in Minsk, may have been diverted to Poland, forcing a state of emergency in Lithuania and Latvia.
