After leaving Seimas, R. Karbauskis told reporters that he was convinced that the faction would do its assigned job, and he himself promised to remain an active party chairman.
“Our cooperation, between the group and myself, is inevitable and will be very flexible,” said R. Karbauskis.
He is convinced that his withdrawal from the Seimas will solve the problems facing his party’s faction in the Seimas.
“I can affirm that everything possible has been done to prevent LVŽS from doing the job for which it was mandated by the voters. As the largest opposition faction, we had to be represented in the leadership of the Seimas, we had to have the Chairman of the Audit Committee and all other positions that belong according to the Statute and according to the tradition of the Seimas. (…) My election and decision was the only way that the LVŽS faction in the Seimas had those opportunities ”, said R. Karbauskis .
He has not yet revealed what the peasants will present to the vice presidents of the Seimas.
After leaving the Seimas, he vows to take over the formation of a shadow government in December and the preparation of his program. The second priority, identified by the party president, is preparation for municipal elections.
“Many divisions have missed me as president of the party in their divisions. Now the coronavirus has changed the situation, but even in the first three years, when there was no coronavirus, I was rarely able to stay in the wards, so there are comments from the wards that they are finally removing the president of their party.
Protests against the decisions of the new government
R. Karbauskis announced last Thursday that he was resigning the mandate of a member of the Seimas, protesting against the actions of the new government in assigning positions in parliament, BNS recalled.
“As I understand that one of the problems for which the office cannot descend and restore democracy is in my person, I will eliminate this problem so that the ruling majority can descend and allow our faction to function fully in the Seimas. My decision is to leave the Seimas, “R. Karbauskis told reporters Thursday after the faction meeting.
Last week, the Seimas rejected the candidacy of Aušrinė Norkienė proposed by the “peasants” by approving the vice-presidents of parliament. All other proposed vice presidents, both the ruler and the opposition, were approved.
The “peasants” who were left without their representative in the leadership of the Seimas promise to appear before the Constitutional Court because a large political group is in a worse position than a small group.

Among the opposition factions, the Lithuanian Union of Greens and Peasants has 32 representatives in the parliament, the Social Democratic Party (12) and the Labor Party (10).
R. Karbauskis was elected a member of the Seimas with the list of the Union of Greens and Peasants of Lithuania.
The leader of the “peasants” with the largest ruling faction in the last period was the largest of the faction and the chairman of the Seimas Culture Committee.
R. Karbauskis was a deputy to Parliament during the Seimas 1996-2000, 2000-2004 and 2016-2020 legislatures.
