O. Vbrienė, Director of the Department of Environmental Protection, received the status of Rapporteur

The department director also told reporters that he did not intend to resign, but acknowledged that the institution’s work had been limited for some time due to the conflict with Minister S. Gentville.

The friction between the minister and O. Vbriens arose when the environmentalist was exhausted, after S. Gentvilas reported on the oil spill at the Btings terminal late last year during the holidays.

The Minister, in turn, alleged that he had received a disproportionate number of complaints from employees of the Department of Environmental Protection and that he himself had initiated an official inspection to determine whether said environmentalist had been convicted of his duties. S. Gentvilas also inquired about the policy department staff, creating a chief position.

O. Vbrien became the permanent head of the Department of Environmental Protection in August, replacing Vald Lauk, whose head of the department received criticism after the fire at the Ekologistika tire recycling company in Alytus and Grigeo Klaipda in the Kuri lagoon.
