“Late on Tuesday night, we received information that three children of the participants of the celebration in Kernavė were infected with the coronavirus. The children themselves did not participate in the celebration, they had contact with the participants. They did not attend educational institutions but they attended certain celebrations, soccer training sessions, a dance club. Today, at least 12 people who have been in contact with them have been identified, “Rolanda Lingienė, Director of the Vilnius Department of NVSC on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the mayor of the Širvintos Živilė Pinskuvienė district announced on Facebook that another person related to the festival in Kernavė was infected with COVID-19.
This information was also confirmed by NVSC. According to preliminary data, this is a person related to infected children, but R. Lingienė said he had no further information and that the new case will be included in Thursday’s statistics.
According to her, a total of six of the eight people who attended the celebration, as well as seven close relatives or related colleagues, were infected with the coronavirus.
Of all these infected, at least eight are from Kernavė. Late Tuesday night, the municipality of Širvintos district, which also includes Kernavė, announced that cultural and sporting events, camps, training and competitions would be canceled for two weeks due to the threat of the spread of the coronavirus, as well as a kindergarten group in Musninkai.
According to the NVSC, a total of 61 people had contact with infected participants or their relatives, 47 of whom were isolated.
According to R. Lingienė, two of the six new cases confirmed the day before were already reported Tuesday: Employees at the Norfa store and Santara’s clinics became ill.
“Seven high-risk people have been identified at the store. (…) An employee of the Santara Clinics Infectious Diseases Department is related to a Norfa employee.” It is probably clear where the disease spread to Norfa, ” said a representative from NVSC.
“In addition, our institution was also contacted by people who visited that store, there are around 40 of them, we contacted them,” added R. Lingienė.
According to her, one case is imported: the coronavirus has been confirmed for another sailor returning from Nigeria.
A total of 1,733 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in Lithuania, according to official data on Wednesday. The infectious disease still affects 280 people, 1,369 recovered.
Since COVID-19, 74 people have died and ten more have died from other causes.
