The middle of autumn this year was marked by exceptional warmth. The other half of September was pampered by the summer heat.
The average air temperature in September was 2.6 ° C higher than the standard climate norm (SKN – the average value of meteorological elements in Lithuania in 1981-2010). The third decade was especially hot and dry, which was up to 4.3 ° C warmer and 91% drier than usual in Lithuania.
The end of October also pampers the unusual heat. The first ten days of October were 3.9 ° C warmer and 60% less rainy than usual. The second was characterized by normal hot conditions, but much more rainy: 2 times more rainfall than usual.
The air temperature in Lithuania in the second half of November is forecast to be up to 2.0 ° C higher than the SKN. Considering the whole month, the air temperature is expected to be up to 1.5 ° C above the norm (SKN 1.9 ° C).
Precipitation in the second half of November is expected to be up to 15% higher than the multi-year average, and precipitation throughout the month is also expected to be higher (up to 10%) than the SKN (SKN 58 mm ).
In summary, it can be said that so far November November will be characterized by warmer and slightly more humid conditions than usual in Lithuania.
From 1961 to the present:
• The warmest months of November were recorded in Lithuania: 1978 (average monthly air temperature 5.8 ° C), 2000 (5.4 ° C), 2013 and 2019 (4.9 ° C);
• Coldest: 1993 and 1998 (-4.2 ° C), 1965 (-2.7 ° C), 1988 (-1.1 ° C).
• The lowest air temperature was recorded at -23.0 ° C (1998, Varėna);
• The highest air temperature was recorded at +18.9 ° C (2018, Druskininkai).
• The highest amount of precipitation was recorded: 1963 (120 mm), 1969 (111 mm), 1981 (92 mm);
• Minimum: 1993 (12 mm), 2018 (19 mm), 2014 (25 mm).
