The border guards of the fire cable detained two residents of Eišišk ens in the Čepkeliai reserve, who were transporting 2,000 contraband cigarette packs. One of them attacked Cable border guards with contraband for the third time in a month, the other for the second time.

On Thursday, Cable Border Guard officers from the SBGS Varėna Border Team, with information from their colleagues in the Criminal Intelligence Division, organized an ambush at the gates of Pogarenda village in Varėna district.

This place is located in the border area, in the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve.

Border guards, including a dog trainer with a service dog, saw two men with carriers carrying them from the Belarusian side of the border into the forest. SBGS officials detained them. When they saw the service dog, they did not try to run or resist.

It turned out that Eišiškės residents, aged 34 and 47, transported 2,000 packages of Fest cigarettes with Belarusian stamps. The main smuggler did not have the required identity documents at the border. Both men were in the Čepkeliai reserve without special permission from their management.

Border guards at Ešiškės Kabeliai, 47, have been detained with smuggling smokers for the third time in the past month. His partner got caught up in SBGS officials for the second time in a month. Once these smugglers were arrested when smokers were also transported in two. The material for these minor offenses is in court.

On this occasion, the border guards also initiated administrative proceedings for the illegal transport of products subject to excise duties in violation of the established procedure. For repeated infractions, both Ešiškės face fines ranging from 5,760 to 6,000 euros. They received summons to go to the Varėna Palace of the Alytus District Court.

An undocumented carrier also faces a fine of 90 to 170 euros for violating the rules of the Border Legal Regime, which, moreover, has been committed repeatedly.

The material on this incident was also handed over by the Cable Border Guard to the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve Directorate, which will decide how to punish the two men who were in the reserve without permits.

After the interviews, the residents of Eišiškės were released by SBGS officials. The cigarettes are stored at Cable Border Barrier.
