Currently, a household can invite a maximum of five people if the people are within one meter of each other.

The rule will run until 2021, but each household will be able to invite up to 10 people during the next vacation, the government said.

The head of government stressed the importance of maintaining physical distance.

“This year we will have to improvise and maybe widen the table a bit,” Prime Minister Erna Solberg told reporters.

Travel domestically or abroad is not recommended, and most people leaving Norway will have to self-quarantine when they return.

Although, unlike many other European countries, Norway has not introduced a new quarantine, there are strict restrictions until December 16.

In addition, the city of Oslo banned the sale of alcohol in bars and restaurants, forcing many establishments to close.

In Norway, 36,591 cases of coronavirus infection and 351 deaths were reported as of Wednesday.
