“At this point, yes (I will run for ELTA), because that is the group’s decision. I am a candidate from our faction,” A. Norkienė told reporters on Tuesday after meeting with Seimas president Viktorija Čmilyte- Nielsen.

According to the politician, the president of Seimas plans to put her candidacy to a vote.

“Yes, she is determined to present (my candidacy to the Seimas – ELTA)”, said a representative of the Union of Greens and Peasants of Lithuania (LVŽS).

A. Norkienė also stated that he understood why V. Čmilytė-Nielsen did not run for vice-presidents of the Seimas on Friday.

“I simply appreciate the female insight and wisdom of the Speaker of the Seimas and understand that she does not want to start the work of the Seimas from appointments that, as she feels, will not be endorsed by the majority. In part, I understand it,” said the MP.

She also said that she had realized during her four years at Seimas that decisions could sometimes fall short of expectations and assured that she, too, would be prepared for defeat.

“During those four years, I realized that at the beginning of the day, I would not know what the night would be like,” added A. Norkienė.

ELTA recalls that a little earlier on Tuesday, the conservative leader Gabrielius Landsbergis declared that he “has no objections” to the candidacy of A. Norkienė.
