Nijolė remembers having a drink that fateful night with his roommate and a visiting friend. When the latter started dating the woman, she was defended by her then partner, gave her a couple of blows, but the drinking continued.
„Schnapps there were many. We all fell asleep. I wake up at night, there are drinks left on the table … I’m trying to raise a friend, and he’s already dead. He was missing a liver. That man was big, weighed more than 100 kg. In the last sentence, the judge kept asking me: “You, as a woman, when a man clings to you, where do you hit?” I was silent. It’s definitely not a hit to the liver. There was nothing to say. Because you are going to confess and you already know what to say, ”recalls N. Volskė.

The partner forced Nijole to take the blame; if he did not, his children would have received threats. N. Volskė admits that for many years he has not been able to answer why he actually agreed to sacrifice himself then. At first, as she said herself, she thought it would be easier.
“He manipulated, I knew I loved my children very much. Until the last trial, I expected my husband to come and tell me what he really was like. I did not understand. A year later the trials ended and he brought another woman into my apartment and then I realized all the futility. It was one of the hardest days, so I thought: “It’s love here, it’s here …”, Nijole says.
This was not the first time Nijole had taken the blame. The woman has done this before, even when the previous husband (the father of her daughter) used mind-boggling violence against her.
“I got addicted. Not only because of the alcohol, but also because of those men … He (the previous man – aut.) Not only threatened me, he burned me and what was not there. I burned everything … Cara, everything. The man paid the doctor to do plastic surgery. The leg was cut off. Supposedly by accident, but then when you drank you got mad, he said he did it specifically. And I kept forgiving, and even saying that I had served (gasoline – aut.) “, – the woman openly tells about fourteen years.
