According to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, the New York club is coordinating the final details of a long-term contract with the new coach. The organization, led by former Thibodeau agent Leon Rose, is said to be signing a five-year contract with the strategist.
The New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau are finalizing a five-year deal to make him the next coach in the franchise, sources told ESPN.

The 62-year-old specialist became NBA champion with the Boston Celtics in 2008. In organizing the championship, Thibodeau served as assistant coach Doc Rivers and was responsible for the team’s defense.
The successful results allowed Thibodeau to challenge himself in the role of head coach in 2010. The Chicago Bulls team gave that opportunity to the specialist, with whom the strategist, who won up to 62 victories in his debut season, received the award for the best NBA coach of the year for this performance.
In the strategist’s first season, the Bulls reached the conference finals, landing at the Miami Heat, led by the then-great trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Thibodeau was no longer able to replicate such success throughout his career. Derrick Rose’s severe knee injury in the first round of the 2012 playoffs interrupted the Bulls’ dreams of fighting for the title, and the coach himself remained in position until 2015, when he was replaced by Fred Hoiberg as coach in boss.
Thibodeau’s last job in the NBA league became the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2016, the organization agreed to appoint a specialist as head coach and president of basketball operations.
Upon arriving in Minneapolis, the specialist managed to lead the team to the playoffs in the first season after a 14-year break, in the first stage of which his students lost 1: 4 to the Houston Rockets.
His time in Minnesota for the quarterback was clouded by Jimmy Butler’s ambition to be traded and internal conflicts in the team’s locker room. In January 2019, Thibodeau was fired from the club and had not worked for any NBA organization until he arrived in New York.
The Knicks have played in the playoffs only five times in the past 20 years, and have only managed to cross the first stage barrier once, in 2013, when Carmelo Anthony’s club in New York broke the Boston Celtics 4: 2.
