The yellow façade that glows in the distance and the workers working around it – such a sight is seen in Vilnius Pašilaičiai, where the latest installation works for Gabija Progymnasium are being completed.
“During the period of independence, the capital did not have it yet – at the same time in September we even opened two completely new schools – in Pašilaičiai near Perkūnkiemis and in Balsiai. The new schools are beautiful and waiting for children. We will not stop further: the design of the new Pilaitė school has been completed. The school will be very aesthetic and modern, and the whole process of design competition and talking with the community was exemplary, and (if everything is in order with public procurement) the students will go to it in two years ”, wrote the mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Šimašius, on Facebook.
Open space – with roof
We took a walk around the new school with Mindaugas Budris, the project manager of the contractor – Conresta, Egidijus Sriubas, the representative of Vilnius Development Company, and Povilas Poderskis, the director of the Vilnius Municipal Administration.
As you enter through the door, the Gabija progymnasium, with a capacity for more than a thousand students, welcomes a leisure space with artificial oak trees: the logs, it is true, are really made of wood, but the leaves will never turn brown and will not fall into fall. A bright yellow bank snakes between them.

So far, even speaking here, M.Budrius stated that this is basically the case only here, solutions found elsewhere, for example in classrooms are solved by hanging from the ceiling, on the spot and in gyms are also suppresses the echo.
This space is the only one, but the school has two interior courtyards on which there is no longer a roof.

There are wardrobes in the basement. On the ground floor there is a large dining room with modern food production and storage equipment. When you walk into those rooms, it really feels like you’ve stepped into the kitchen of a fancy restaurant.
M.Budrius confirms that when installing the kitchen, they consulted with specialists who are constantly engaged in these kinds of activities, so there really shouldn’t be any big differences between the kitchens at this school and the restaurants.

Professional video and audio equipment.
We travel further. The corridors here are wide, the spaces in them are separated by doors. Many of the latter are necessary for fire safety. The classrooms are typical, also spacious and have interactive whiteboards.

The stage in the auditorium is striking: a screen is installed, on which it will be possible to view the year of the performances. There is also another screen that is lowered and can be used to show, say, movies. Professional and sound system, standing piano.
“Different solutions are made on the ceiling, some absorb sound, others reflect. Exactly the same on the rear and side walls. This determines the quality of the sound, “explained M. Budrius.

At the gym: fun for the little ones
There are two gyms at the school: large and small. The latter will be especially popular with the little ones, as here they will have exceptional tasks.
“This room is exceptional for its interactivity. There will be an image on the floor or on the walls, it is touched, it is for small children, they can throw balls, there are special soft balls for that ”, showed M. Budrius.

Another room is dedicated to choreography, with changing rooms, mirrors, handrails. The art studio will have custom-made tables and chairs, and there will also be an interactive whiteboard hanging on the wall.
The library is divided in half, so far only textbooks are on the shelves, but in the future it will be possible to read books on one side and computers on the other.

Suspended on time
Contractors had a year and a half to implement the project; It seems that everything is done, the builders only have the last days left for small finishing work.
“The Gabija Gymnasium and other successfully completed construction projects are the result of important work: Vilnius Development Company stands firm and is able to manage the projects. We hope that the Lazdynai Basin and other construction and real estate development projects entrusted to them will continue to move forward with this new force. I thank the board and management for the results to the city of Vilnius ”, P. Poderskis tends to evaluate not only the builders.

The project for this school was developed in 2011, but during the preparation of the technical project, Conresta representatives say they have changed this. “The design task itself was such that we had to adjust certain aspects, such as, for example, the windows are not plastic but plastic, the facades are plastered, the gym is enlarged, etc. Many changes have been made, ”said M. Budrius.
He did not hide the challenges, but he did not call the project extremely difficult.
