New details in the case of the disappearance of three-year-old Maddie: the woman recognized her torturer

“I can confirm that we are also investigating the accused of the alleged rape of a young Irishman in the Algarve in 2004,” Brunswick prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told AFP.

That woman turned to the police after seeing photos of a suspect known to Christian B., 43, in the media.

“The victim believes that he may have recognized his torturer. As a result, an investigation was launched in late June,” said H. Ch. Wolters.

A shocking turning point in McCann’s long history of mysterious disappearances was the statement made by German prosecutors in June that Christian B. may have kidnapped and murdered the girl.

Ms. McCann, also known as Maddie, disappeared in 2007 almost just before her fourth birthday, when her parents let her sleep in a hotel room and dined with friends at a party restaurant in the Portuguese town of Praia da Luso.

Despite massive international searches, the girl was not found.

German prosecutors say they have “concrete evidence” that McCann is dead, although British police still consider her missing.

Christian B. has been repeatedly convicted of sex crimes, including sexual abuse and rape, in the past.

He is currently serving a sentence in a German prison for drug trafficking.

He was also convicted in Germany of raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luse, but the verdict is not yet final as the technical details of the extradition have been questioned.

German police are also linking Christian B. to several other unsolved cases.

Confirming previous media reports, H. Ch. Wolters said that allegations that Christian B. sexually exploited a 10-year-old girl in the Algarve region of Portugal in April 2007, where Madeleine had gone missing a little earlier, are also being investigated.

The suspect is accused of masturbating in the presence of that girl, H. Ch. Wolters.

At the end of July, the German police searched a vegetable garden in the northern city of Hannover in an investigation into the disappearance of a young British man, Mr. McCann.
