Every Latvian family that is raising children will soon receive a benefit of 500 euros for each of them. Therefore, the government of the country seeks to support the population of the country affected by the coronavirus. In total, some 360 thousand children in the country will receive lump sums.

The Latvian government, which has given the green light to the measure of economic support, says that the restrictions imposed by the pandemic have reduced the income of many families, children have been studying at home for a long time and many have had to buy new computers or other special team.

Latvia’s Ministry of Finance says that large families and single-parent families have been particularly affected by the pandemic. The 50,000 euro benefit will reach families in the near future after the parliament approves the financial support measure.

“People do not have to fill out any payment documents or request it by phone. The 500 euro benefit will be automatically transferred to people’s accounts before March 31,” says Iveta Daine, representative of the Latvian Social Security Agency .

Latvia estimates that the payment to the country’s budget will untie 182 million euros, but this is expected to boost consumption. In June last year, Lithuania paid a similar lump sum for children raised in the family. It is true that they ranged between 120 and 200 euros.
