“I think we will find a moderate solution and maybe they can stay in that Kaunas, but today is too early to say that a decision will be made,” he added.
According to him, the costs of maintaining the facilities and possible renovation have yet to be assessed, as well as asking the employees themselves if they would like to return to Vilnius.
The minister said it was agreed with the staff to continue discussing the situation in January, when the entire structure of the ministry would be decided. According to him, the new financial perspective and his new goals require changes.
In early December, the minister said that the return of the Kaunas Ministry of Agriculture unit to Vilnius was a political objective. He emphasized that people working in Kaunas were given certain expectations: they were promised that they could have real estate in Kaunas, work in different conditions, therefore, during the return process of the Ministry, efforts would be made not to harm them.
Currently, there are 24 employees of the Ministry of Agriculture in Kaunas, there are four departments: Programming, Project Management and Analysis, Cooperation with Municipalities and Social Partners, Knowledge Development and Consulting and Use of Infrastructure and Biofuels.
The “peasants” have been preparing to move the Ministry of Vilnius to Kaunas since the beginning of his term in 2016. At the end of last year, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis also promised that there will be separate subdivisions of the Ministry of Agriculture not only in Kaunas , but also in Panevėžys and Alytus.
