On Sunday a National Prayer Breakfast was held at the Presidency.

“We are going through an extraordinary, perhaps even critical moment in the life of our nation. The test caused by the pandemic for the Lithuanian healthcare system is a test both for society as a whole and for our state. At the same time, it is a personal test for each one of us, “G. Nausėda addressed the people of the country.

The Head of State invited people to draw strength from the history of Lithuania and focus on a difficult time for the country.

“There are many examples in the history of Lithuania that can and should strengthen us today. Let us remember, for example, the unshakable martyr Theophilius Matulionis, a 20th century Lithuanian martyr.” I am sure that his strong, calm, calm but victorious stance can inspire many for the exploits of today, “said the president.

“Personally and as a society we will stand the test of the pandemic and become even stronger. Let’s not get angry and let’s not lose our balance, “said G. Nausėda at the National Prayer Breakfast.

The breakfast was attended by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Vilnius Gintaras Grušas and the Orthodox Bishop Ambrozijus Fedukovičius. Due to quarantine requirements, this time a prayer breakfast is prepared without guests.

Thoughts on gratitude were shared remotely by people in Lithuania and Lithuanian communities in other countries.

Birutė Zablockienė, a doctor and doctor of medical sciences working at the Center for Infectious Diseases at the Santara Clinics, shared her testimony remotely. The event was broadcast from the Presidency by a national station.

The tradition of a prayer breakfast, where representatives of different religious denominations and different parties gather for spiritual communication, originated in the 20th century in the United States. President Valdas Adamkus started the tradition of national prayer breakfasts in Lithuania in 2001. Last year, it was revived by G. Nausėda.
