This is true, for example, of the Food Bank, which is now unable to support physicians because they are not charitable beneficiaries.

Irena Segalovičienė, adviser to the president on social policy, says that, in the president’s opinion, the intention to pass the law is noble and, to achieve its objectives, the government will have to foresee the implementation procedure after assessing all possible risks.

“It is especially important not to create the slightest preconditions for the weakening of non-governmental organizations, because our country needs a growing non-governmental sector that increases civic power,” the adviser is quoted in the report.

According to I. Segalovičienė, the President hopes that the provisions for the application of the law will be discussed with the social partners, especially with non-governmental organizations, and the statutes will eliminate possible risks.

The Seimas approved amendments to the Law of Charity and Support, presented by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and the Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee Mykolas Majauskas, before Christmas with special urgency.

Residents will not be required to maintain support records, submit reports to the State Fiscal Inspection on support received and its use.

Beneficiaries can now be charitable and support foundations, budgetary and public institutions, associations, religious communities, divisions of public international organizations, Lithuanian communities established abroad and other Lithuanian institutions or organizations registered in Lithuania. The beneficiaries of natural persons can be holders of the condition of artist.
