The gesture of coming to personally greet the players, when his advisers said a few days ago that the president cannot meet with LGBT families because the busy schedule does not allow it, the political scientist Bernar Ivanov calls it simply another search for popularity.
“Basketball is our second religion. And our esteemed president respects the traditions. We have also seen a large number of spectators, a priority for the majority. He goes with the majority, for him minorities and in general all small groups, be they the Whatever they are, they are not very relevant. But according to the majority principle, it works. Not surprisingly, he wants popularity, he behaves in a populist way. And groups that can cause problems in terms of ratings are not a priority for him.
I think you don’t even have to think that the president is homophobic. This is not the case. He is only looking for popularity, he is afraid of losing one point or another, ”says B. Ivanov.
Does it show your priorities?
Politics, according to a political scientist, is a “cynical occupation”, so it would be difficult to moralize one or another performance of the president in public space.
“But it all makes sense – with the majority, in a popular place, although yesterday it was not successful. Still, saying the word can get attention. Or ten (in terms of LGBT – aut. past.) there may be problems, there is no doubt that someone will blame, ”says B. Ivanov.
Communication expert Arūnas Armalis has no doubts: in such actions, the president shows what matters most to him. He calls the escape from the presidency strange to discuss issues that concern the LGBT community.
“It was very interesting to say it in the meeting with Raskevičius – he said (Advisor to the president – Aut. Past). He did not reply that he would arrange a meeting, but said that he would pass on the invitation. (for the president – automatic mail) only when a busy schedule allows it.

Talking to LGBT families, according to A. Armalis, would be in the best interest of the president at this time.
“Now is the time for the president to take this communicative step, because now is the Christmas season. According to A. Armalis, many times the president’s agenda is almost empty, so it is strange that when calling it tense, he sees only one meeting or another, sometimes empty.
He compared the agenda of the head of state with the agendas of Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and Seimas spokesperson Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.
“This is not the first time that we see an empty presidential agenda. I don’t think the president is such a busy person. We can look at the Prime Minister, we can look at the Spokesmen of the Seimas, we always see their full schedules.
I myself know from my own experience that the schedule for such policies generally includes 12 hours or more a day. There are a lot of small meetings on the agenda that are not recorded because they are too small, ”says A. Armalis.
Political scientist B. Ivanov has no doubt that the president follows the principles “the less he commits, the fewer mistakes he makes.”
“And there is a saying ‘who does not work is not wrong'”. Although we know that the opposite usually happens: whoever works is wrong.
Everything is logical, so the agenda must be relevant if you follow these principles. Polytechnically, everything is fine, the president is there and that is enough. In terms of qualifications, it works for him, “said B. Ivanov.
L. Bielinis does not agree with G. Nausėda avoiding communicating about LGBT issues and solving problems on this topic. In his opinion, the head of the country’s agenda is more complex than what is indicated on the presidential page.
“I do not think the agenda is what it is. Probably, it is much more complicated”, – political scientist Lauras Bielinis.
Basketball players visited
The portal tv3.lt recalls that after the Lithuanian basketball team 85:96 the Slovenians landed in the arena on Sunday, President Gitanas Nausėda, who watched the game with his wife Diana, briefly visited the team’s dressing room on Sunday for the night and Facebook thanking the basketball players, he urged them not to be upset.
