“Dictator Ilegitimus adds Belarusian opposition leader Cichanousjak to the international wanted list. I hope that the EU states will stand together and ignore this illegal order. Cichanouskaya may be sought in Belarus, but the EU should leave the door open for her, ”Nausėda announced on her Twitter account on Friday.

On Friday, Belarusian authorities reported that the country had announced an international search for opposition leader Sviatlan Cichanouskaya, who had gone to Lithuania, for her participation in the Coordinating Council. Minsk claims that the council’s actions were aimed at “destabilizing the social and political, economic and information situation in the country, undermining the national security of the Republic of Belarus.”

S. Cichanouskaja, who left for Vilnius after the presidential elections on August 9, is considered the winner of the elections. The 38-year-old figure decided to run for president when her husband, Siarhei Cichanouski, who also intended to challenge Lukashenko, was jailed.

In recent weeks, Belarusian militias have arrested thousands of protesters. As a result of eyewitness reports on violence by militias and torture of detainees, the international community condemned Lukashenko’s regime, which had been sanctioned by the West.
