Nausėda – about friction with Šimonyte: I haven’t heard anything about it

And what is that friction? In fact, I didn’t hear anything about friction. Someone said that “and it would be a good combination: Nausėda – the president, Šimonytė – the prime minister. I don’t really have any personal friction with the esteemed Ingrid, just as I don’t have any friction with the party that is currently winning the election. I think we should put this question to the voters themselves: how will they decide in the second round what kind of coalition will be possible after the second round, will it be formed, and I hope that it will achieve the best and noblest goals for Lithuania. The president will always be there, he will always be there if he sees that work is being done for Lithuania, ”said G. Nausėda.

The president says that depending on the results of the second round of the Seimas elections, governing coalitions of both the left and the right can be formed.

According to the country’s head, the results of the first round show that all opportunities remain open.

“We will leave the formation of the coalition after the second round of the elections. I believe that today there are opportunities open for all coalitions, both on the right and on the left, and perhaps even coalitions that are difficult to imagine are possible,” the president told journalists in Taurage.

The head of state urged people, regardless of their political views, to actively participate in the second round of the elections.

“The election result probably does not negate the fact that there are an approximate number in Lithuania, or maybe even a little
so many more left voters compared to right wing voters. This time, however, it was clear that right-wing voters were more active, especially in big cities. They may have seen their expectations fulfilled on certain party programs, and they voted.

In the second round, the situation may change. Other voters can vote more actively. In general, I would urge all voters, regardless of their ideological orientation, to go to the polls and vote. Only then will they be able to say that “we have done everything possible so that the elections reflect our expectations,” said G. Nausėda.

Willing to moderate the process of a national agreement on education

The president did not see in the party regulations opposition to his idea of a welfare state.

“I am very happy that practically all the parties have responded to the call of the welfare state. There may be some different interpretations, but you will probably agree that today we will not find a party in Lithuania that says that there should be more poverty in Lithuania.

Many parties, including the new ones, stress that education must be a priority. Without doubt, this is one of the cornerstones of the welfare state. As you know, we recently introduced our package of laws that provide equal starting opportunities for children from socially excluded families, ”said G. Nausėda.

The head of state considers that many parties are ripe for a national agreement on education.

“We are ready to moderate the birth of this agreement,” said G. Nausėda.

The president said he congratulated the leaders of six to five percent of the parties that crossed the line.

As already announced, a total of 6 parties in the multinominal constituency have crossed the 5 percent voter cartel, according to preliminary data from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

Thus, half of the Seimas – 70 seats – in the next legislature will look like this: 23 conservatives, 16 peasants, 9 “workers”, 8 Social Democrats, 8 members of the Freedom Party and 6 members of the Liberal Movement.
