Following the meeting between G. Nausėda and D. Miniataitė on Wednesday, the President’s Advisor Antanas Bubnelis stated that the President had pointed out that the candidate has many years of experience in the agricultural sector and is very familiar with the issues of this sector.

“He has institutional experience from the Ministry of Agriculture, he knows the people who work in the fields very well. These are its undoubted advantages, “A. Bubnelis told reporters on Wednesday.

However, the president overlooked the candidate’s vision on several important issues.

“There are no clear priorities to address agriculture. In particular, there is a lack of a long-term vision of how agriculture can become an environmentally friendly sector, a higher value-added sector and how agriculture can do more. contribution to the strengthening of regional policy.

The president also lacked a clearer vision of how efficiency and transparency issues related to the National Land Service could be addressed, ”said Bubnel.

Teams have yet to be formed

In the meeting with the President, D. Miniataitė herself said that she had spoken of the first works planned for her, how the agricultural and food sector could be in four years.

“Other work is related to actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which we must do to neutralize climate change,” Miniataitė told reporters on Wednesday.

The candidate said she was thinking about which team would help her meet the challenges, but had not yet spoken to potential candidates.

“I am waiting for the appointment, so apparently it will be possible to speak specifically. However, I think that, as always, we will have an important part of the team that will be in charge of preparing the program, implementing the requirements of climate change, creating added value, stabilizing the markets. The team can be made up of colleagues working in the Ministry of Agriculture, ”said D. Miniataitė.

At the time, D. Miniataitė was unwilling to agree with the president’s criticism of the lack of priorities.

“I have my priorities and I imagine how I would work if they named me. As I said, the priorities are very clear: a new period in which we have to draw up programs so that we can benefit from the support of the European Union for ten years.

They are things with greater added value, not least digitization, the development of short chains and the possibility of generating and generating income for small farmers ”, said the candidate.

Some more meetings are waiting

Mr. Nausėda has already met with nine ministerial candidates. On Tuesday, after a meeting with Prime Minister-designate Ingrida Šimonyte, the presidency said that G. Nausėda had doubts about some of the candidates, but their names were not named.
