He said this when BNS asked him what Lithuania can expect in the near future, in terms of the presence of US troops in the country.

“This is a political decision and we will see how it is implemented. So far, I do not know how this political decision will be implemented in practice,” said a senior NATO official who visited Lithuania on Thursday.

The Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Valdemaras Rupšys, stated that the United States, after withdrawing its forces from Lithuania, would deploy them again during the exercise in August and later in the fall, which is expected next spring.

“We will now have an air defense unit exercise in late August: US defense units will be deployed to Lithuania, then the units will likely be deployed to a shooting exercise in Pabradė in the fall and spring.

United States President Donald Trump, who received Polish President Andrzej Duda at the White House on Wednesday, said Washington plans to move some of its troops from Germany to Poland.

The Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, V. Rupšys, stated that so far there is no concrete decision on the transfer of US troops from Germany to Poland.

“It just caught our eye then. These are more political statements. Our interest is to have Americans in Europe,” said the Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Since October last year, a battalion of US soldiers has been deployed to Lithuania, the Americans have delivered about 30 tanks to Abrams, more than 20 “Bradley” infantry fighting vehicles, and other military equipment.

US troops planned to complete the mission in the spring, but the coronavirus pandemic adjusted their plans, and the Americans officially completed the mission in mid-June.

National Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis has stated that the presence of US troops in Lithuania, joint exercises with soldiers from the battalion of the Lithuanian front and NATO forces is the best deterrent.
