From Wednesday to Saturday morning, the border guards turned over 494 cars that they checked between different municipalities. During the first stage of that measure last weekend, SBGS officials, who assisted the police, also prevented nearly half a thousand cars from crossing municipal boundaries.

Starting Wednesday, December 23, patrols of SBGS officers will be on duty again at the entrances to cities or towns in various parts of Lithuania, mainly in the border regions, to check whether travelers have the right to enter another territory from the municipality where they live.

As of Saturday morning, SBGS officials were not allowing a total of 494 cars for crews to leave from one municipality to another without any justifiable reason. These drivers and their passengers were handed over by SBGS officials, so the travelers had to return to their places of residence.

In addition, during this time, the border guards who carried out these controls detected 6 quarantine rules and another 22 minor crimes.

On the first day of Christmas, two residents of Druskininkai explained to border guards who had detained them that they were heading to the neighboring Lazdijai district to swim in the lake. SBGS officials offered them a swim in the bodies of water in Druskininkai municipality and handed over the car. Many travelers went from their place of residence to Neringa or Druskininkai just to take a walk and see how the resorts are decorated during the festive period. On the first day of Christmas, there were also drivers who went to the neighboring municipality to pay for services, buy car trailers or perform various household tasks.

During the first phase of said police assistance, which lasted from December 18 to 20, border guards prevented 491 cars from moving from one municipality to another, they found 4 quarantine rules and 8 other violations. In the periods from December 18 to 20, from December 23 to 27 and from December 31 to January 3. A total of around 270 SBGS patrols consisting of two border guards were assigned to these checkpoints. It is true that both SBGS officials do not wake up at the same time. There are always double-digit patrols with two border guards at those checkpoints. Patrols change every day, ensuring the smooth performance of direct SBGS functions related to the protection of physical borders, work at international checkpoints with neighboring countries, control of illegal migration, etc.

Border guards typically conduct travel controls between municipalities in border regions. For example, travelers should not be surprised to see that they are stopped by SBGS agents when entering Šilutė, Pagėgiai, Vilkaviškis, Druskininkai, Šalčininkai, Švenčionis, Ignalina, and other cities and towns. Border patrols also work at the blockade posts near Klaipėda, Palanga, Šiauliai, Vilnius, Varėna and elsewhere.
