On Friday, SBGS officials detained three groups of foreigners trying to enter Lithuania in the Ignalina district, a total of 32 migrants.
The first two groups from Belarus, 6 and 9 people, were detained in the morning by the border guards of the Puškai firebreak of the SBGS Vilnius team. Another group of 17 immigrants was detained by the Puškės border guards in the morning, SBGS reports.
All detainees will be screened for COVID-19. The identities of the aliens are established. The facts are investigated and their circumstances clarified.
This year, 329 illegal immigrants from Belarus tried to enter Lithuania. Most of them are Iraqi citizens. This figure is four times higher than in 2020, the SBGS report notes.
Last year, 81 of those foreigners were arrested. 2019 46 illegal immigrants were caught by border guards in 2018; – 104.
With the recent increase in the number of such cases, SBGS has strengthened border security with Belarus. In addition to various organizational measures, border guards from other units were assigned to this section and additional technical resources were assigned. In addition, the border guards are assisted by forces from the Public Security Service and the Riflemen’s Union.
