Most of the people were detained in the capital Minsk on Sunday, according to human rights defenders. There are also detainees in Mogilev, Grodno, Vitebsk, Brest, Salihorsk, Maladecina, Žodzina, Orsha, Baranovichi.
In Belarus there have been unprecedented protests for the second month in a row over the presidential elections on August 9, announced by Aliaksandr Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and western countries consider these elections to be rigged.
