More than 190 people have been detained in Belarus during Sunday’s protests.

According to human rights defenders, the militias detained 194 people, the majority in Minsk, during protests against the regime of authoritarian President Aliaksandr Lukashenko.

Arrests were also reported in Sunday’s protests in Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Dzerzhinsk, Novgorod, Navapolock, Svetlahorsk, Smurgainiai and Fanipal.

According to Viasna, young people and journalists are among those arrested.

Belarus has been protesting for the third month in a row against Lukashenko, who was officially declared the winner of the presidential elections on August 9. The opposition and western democracies consider these elections to be rigged.
