As E. Misiūnas reported on Monday on the social network Facebook, the Presidency will not allow him to return to his previous job in the district court.

“Today, more than a month and a half from the day I requested to restore my status as a former judge, I received a message from the Legal Group of the Presidency that they would not appoint me to the position of former judge. It is argued that I participated in politics and did not comply with the principle of “political neutrality”, – said E. Misiūnas, emphasizing that neither the Constitution nor the Law of Courts contain the concept of “political cooling”.

He assures that he fulfilled all the requirements established by law both in 2015, when he was appointed as a judge in the District Court of the city of Vilnius, as he now fulfills them.

According to E. Misiūnas, he has not joined the “peasants” party.

“I want to emphasize that I was not a member of any political party, I participated in the elections as an independent person,” said E. Misiūnas on the social network.

According to him, the decision to participate in politics was based on the provisions of the Law of Courts, which establishes that a former judge can be appointed judge of the same or of any lower court if he has been voluntarily dismissed for his cause. or his election, transfer or appointment to the Seimas. or the position of head of an institution or state body designated by the President, and the term is set in which “two years have not elapsed since the end of the mandate.”

The ministers are appointed by the president.

E. Misiūnas headed the Ministry of the Interior from December 2016 to the summer of 2019, but after the renewal of the ruling coalition, her functions were taken over by Rita Tamašunienė, representative of the Polish electoral campaign of Lithuania, the Union of Christian Families . .

In October 2019, E. Misiūnas became Deputy Minister of National Defense, before that month he worked as an advisor to Minister Raimundas Karoblis.

Before becoming a minister, E. Misiūnas worked as a judge at the Vilnius District Court for a year.

Before becoming a judge, E. Misiūnas worked in the Special Investigation Service and taught at the then Police Academy.
