Migrants from Lithuania sometimes just hailed a taxi: they told the strangest stories to catch them

According to data provided by the Interior Ministry, since the beginning of this year, most of the migrants have tried to leave the Refugee Reception Center in Rukla and the Alien Registration Center in Pabradė. Among the migrants detained here are those who can move freely through the territory or even leave the center 24 hours a day, and the controls, especially before the migration crisis, were not very strict. It only strengthened after the influx of newcomers, and the Interior Ministry promised on Wednesday that there will be even more protection.

Many immigrants also came from Rūdninkai, where more than 700 young men stayed. One seventh of the migrants tried to escape happiness.

Looking for an African market

On July 30, Marijampolė officials stopped a car of a Latvian citizen with 3 illegal immigrants. All were missing from the Refugee Reception Center.

In addition, two passengers also claimed to be minors, but biological tests categorically denied the words, both at least 23 years old.

These tactics are often chosen by young migrants because they do not have documents, they lie that they are adolescents, and therefore they are initially treated as a vulnerable person and considered to be in better condition. However, this lie quickly becomes apparent, as the actual age of newcomers is always being investigated. It almost always turns out that people were much older than they actually say.

This time, the detained migrants provided an unexpected explanation: Travelers trapped at the Lithuanian-Polish border stated that they did not plan to leave Lithuania at all. They were only looking for an African market where they hoped to buy meat and hygiene items.

“We didn’t know where they were transporting us,” they explained, assuring them that they had just stopped the passenger car.

For some reason, searching the market, travelers tore up the registration certificates received in Lithuania from foreigners – they found them in the car.

I thought that I was already free

On the night of August 13, a car driven by a Turkish citizen with 6 migrants stopped.

It turned out that all 6 were staying in the Verebie village camp, from which they fell. The fugitives came up with an interesting explanation of where they were going.

“I was misinformed about the duration of my detention, I thought I was already free,” said one of them.

They explained that they had left Vilnius for the camp, where they wanted to find a camp where they could give their fingerprints, a written commitment not to go anywhere and obediently wait for the asylum application to be examined.

I was afraid of being deported

A car with two Iraqis, both with a temporary residence permit in Germany, was detained on July 18.

Officials immediately suspected the purpose of the men’s trip, as someone still called the passenger, but he did not respond and looked very upset.

It turned out to be a well-planned human transport operation, with the detainees serving as magicians.

Soon a freight bus appeared, with 16 people sitting on the ground: 4 women, 4 men, and 8 children.

They all fled the same day from the Rukla Refugee Reception Center, where they had been housed until then.

People explained that they decided to have sex with children from Lithuania because they were afraid of being deported, so they agreed with acquaintances and decided to try to go to Germany.

Presented to the police station

At noon on July 8, two taxis approached the Vilnius County Police Commissariat.

9 Africans got out of the taxi with their suitcases. None of them had identity documents with them.

The drivers explained that they just received a call and the passengers sent the coordinates. At first they thought they were going to some kind of farm for rural tourism, but they found themselves in the middle of the forest.

A group of dark-skinned people emerged from the bushes, holding on and asking to be taken away as soon as possible.

The troubled drivers decided not to transport the newcomers to the indicated address, but to hand them over directly to the police in the capital.

The agents immediately turned over the arrivals to border guards, who transferred them to the URC.

The detained migrants explained that they wanted to travel to Belgium and Germany, where their relatives live. At first, they did not even want asylum in Lithuania and changed their mind only after learning that in that case they would have to take responsibility for the illegal border crossing.

Promises to capture and store more diligently

The Minister of the Interior, Agnė Bilotaitė, after the announcement of the flight of more than 700 migrants, promised that the protection of the camps would be strengthened.

“I would not name a number because it is information that can be used against us.” We see certain threats and we are deploying additional forces to ensure that the migrants do not leave, so that there is more protection, “he said.

He added that the protection of the main roads to Poland had been strengthened since the beginning of the migration crisis.

“Both Lithuanian and Polish officials are on patrol, all suspect cars are detained and under control. On that basis, a significant amount has already been reimbursed. Controls between the Polish and German borders have also been tightened,” the ministers said.

According to her, when the migrants leave, all the institutions start looking for them quickly.

“We managed to catch some, but as we all understand, Lithuania is not a target country for these people. Their target is other countries of the European Union and they strive to achieve it in every way,” said A. Bilotaitė.
