According to ministry spokesman Anatoly Hlaz, attempts to influence Belarus with sanctions have the opposite effect.

“We have carefully read the statements of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Be that as it may, they are our neighbors, so their views are important to us. Although, judging by recent hasty steps, unfortunately less and less. And sad to say, “says A. Hlaz in the report of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He stressed that by imposing sanctions, the Baltic states were “climbing the same rake.”

“It is incomprehensible what this step by Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is called to support the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, about which so much has been talked about and about which so much has been talked about. Yet such a persistent desire to climb on the same rake and not thinking of walking in a closed circle causes sincere disappointment, ”said A. Hlazas.

“The history of our independent state eloquently confirms that any attempt to impose sanctions on Belarus only brings its initiators the opposite effect. We are absolutely convinced that today’s decision by Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will be no exception,” he added.

Klaz also reiterated that Belarus would be forced to retaliate.

On Monday, Lithuania imposed national sanctions on 30 high-ranking Belarusian officials. Among them are the authoritarian Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and his associates. Latvia and Estonia also announced national sanctions on Monday.

New sanctions were imposed on the Lukashenko regime for rigged presidential elections and violence against peaceful protesters. After the first manifestations of electoral fraud, some 7,000 people were arrested. of the people who left the detention center said they had been brutally beaten, several people died.

The restrictive measures against Belarus were imposed for the first time in 2004 due to the disappearance of four people. In 2011, the European Union issued additional sanctions against those who carried out the crackdown.
